Congratulations to the Pramblers on completing a sensational 300 mile pram-pushing first!

After setting off from Manchester to raise awareness of the need to keep mums everywhere healthy, two weeks and thousands of footsteps later the Pramblers make it to London's Millenium Bridge. With their pregnant giant, prams full of messages of concern and shouts of encouragement from around the country, the volunteers completed their challenge on Saturday. Over 1000 women a day die in pregnacy or childbirth; the Pramblers walk has raised awareness of the problem and brought it to the attention of some influential people - something needs to change.

Over the next week we'll be following up the Pramble with the best of the messages of support, a selection of new photos and information on the Pramblers' meeting with Secretary of State for International Development, the Rt Hon. Andrew Mitchell.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PRAMBLERS, VOLUNTEERS, SHOP STAFF, SUPPORT TEAM, DRUMMERS, GIANTS, PHOTOGRAPHERS, VIDEOGRAPHERS, TEXT SENDERS AND SHOUTERS OF SUPPORT. WELL DONE. LET'S MAKE IT COUNT.

East Sheen to Millenium Bridge

A two week, 300 mile pram journey that travelled from Manchester to London, ends on the Millennium Bridge, London. Oxfam's Pramble project is raising awareness of the 1,000 women in poor countries who die every day in pregnancy and childbirth, and calls for more midwives and better health provision.

Parliament on Friday: Pramblers broke off from the walk over lunchtime to meet with Under Secratary of State for International Development Stephen O'Brien.

Stephen O'Brien MP was kind enough to meet the Pramblers. Chris Ashworth and Shehan Perera represented the Manchester volunteer group, while Prambling mother and daughter Lyne and Beth Knowles represented the Eddisbury constuency.

It was a good meeting where they got a chance to quiz the minister about maternal healthcare and get his reaction to the Pramble.

Shehan Perera sent us this text message about the meeting. "Just met Stephen O'Brien, interesting meeting and great that he had time to chat to us. Very positive regarding government's prioritisation on investing in women, though needed to hear more on free healthcare! He loved the Pramble."
